Italy 2006 election final results
Final results of Italy's 2006 parliamentary elections in the country proper are now available on Elections to the Italian Parliament. The definitive numbers show little change with respect to earlier provisional figures, but include previously unavailable electorate and voter turnout statistics.

I must emphasize that since Italian expatriates were granted separate representation in both houses of the Italian Parliament, they were moved to a separate electoral roll as well. For that reason, the total number of electors in 2006 is smaller than in 2001, while at the same time voter turnout appeared to increase with respect to the preceding election. In reality, this increase was largely brought about by the removal of expatriate voters to a separate roll: consequently, the low levels of participation among Italians residing abroad no longer had the effect of reducing the overall turnout rate, as they had done in previous elections.

A crisis is born in Italy
As you probably know by now, Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi presented his resignation this Wednesday, after his center-left coalition government lost another foreign policy vote in the Senate. I'm covering the political crisis resulting from Prodi's sudden resignation on Global Economy Matters, under A crisis is born in Italy (updated as of February 28, 2007), which has been cross-posted on A Fistful of Euros (AFOE).

Incidentally, at the time of this posting, both my cross-posted AFOE piece and Edward Hugh's companion article on Italy's economy, Italy's Economic Problems Under The Spotlight (also cross-posted on AFOE) are showing up at the top of Google News on searches for Italy and Italy economy, respectively.

Elections to the Finnish Eduskunta (Parliament)
Finland holds a parliamentary election in exactly one month - on Sunday, March 18, 2007 - but advance voting begins on March 7. Elections to the Finnish Eduskunta (Parliament) presents an overview of that country's electoral and political system, with Finnish legislative election results since 1945.

For a review of contemporary Finnish politics, visit Aapo Markkanen's blog. (Aapo is a fellow contributor at Global Economy Matters; Aapo has also been immensely helpful with verification of hard-to-find electorate and voter turnout figures for the recently-included 1945 and 1948 Eduskunta elections.)
